Massage Therapy Schools
While there are some online massage therapy schools in existence, it is typically necessary to learn this skill in person, or at least supplement online instruction with classroom guidance.
The expense of attending the top massage therapy schools and earning the accompanying degree or certificate does vary widely depending on the requirements of the jurisdiction that oversees the licensing requirements. Massage therapy schools in California, for instance, will be required to provide 500 hours of training per new regulations recently passed. This surpasses the old requirement of 250 hours. It is interesting to note that some cities in California require 1000 hours of education, which obviously exceeds the state requirement. Fingerprinting and background checks will also be required.
Massage therapy schools in Florida and the state requirements for licensing include requirements that a person must be at least 18 years old, complete the education courses at an approved school, pass a national exam and take a course in the prevention of medical errors.
Massage therapy schools in Texas are required to provide 500 hours of education. Upon completion of the course work, an application fee will be required with the application for a license. This fee is currently $106. In addition there are testing cost and may be other miscellaneous fees.
The cost to obtain this education also varies widely, and is most part based upon the time required to earn a degree or certification that meets your local requirements. While online massage therapy schools may be less expensive, and faster in some cases, the top in-person education tends to cost more.
